Our Approach



“E. METAXA & CO PC” is steadfast in its commitment to environmental protection and
sustainable growth. The company’s environmental policy is based on the following principles:

1. Taking steps to protect the environment by avoiding activities that pollute or disrupt it, in
accordance with relevant legislation.
2. The establishment and adoption of an Environmental Protection System throughout the
production process, based on the principles and obligations resulting from European
regulations and standards, that the company is strictly adhering to.
3. Constant evaluation and improvement of the company’s environmental performance.
4. Programs of continuous education for the company’s staff, regarding environmental and ecological issues.
5. The implementation of an “open-dialog” policy and frequent briefings amongst the executives of the company.
6. The adoption by the management team and all company executives of the idea of environmental responsibility.

Compliance with the regulatory framework and the adoption and implementation of all the rules
and guidelines related to environmental protection that “METAXA” itself has established, are an
integral part of its staff’s and partners’ responsibilities, and constitute a necessary condition for
potential cooperation.
The company’s management and the chief executive are committed to the continuous and
uninterrupted implementation of the environmental policy and will endeavor to constantly improve
and upgrade it.

Furthermore, they will make sure that the environmental policy of the company will be available
to the whole staff of the company, as well as to its clients, its suppliers and the public.
Responsible for the company’s compliance to all the above regulations and requirements, the
General Administrator of Environmental Management is confirmed to be Mrs. IouliaEirinopoulou
(security technician), whose responsibilities include overseeing of its implementation in each stage
of production and briefing the company’s executives.

In accordance with the guidelines described above, during the period of 2017-2018 the
company undertook a number of actions that are outlined below, in order to minimize energy
consumption during its operations and consequently improve its environmental performance.
The first step was replacing all fluorescent lamps in all workplaces with LED lamps. More
specifically, there were 212 36W fluorescent lamps in total, which were replaced with 22W LED
lamps. This shift resulted in a net reduction of power consumption of approximately 6.000 KWh per year.

{(212 lamps) x (36W – 22W) x (8h / day) x (250 days / year)} / 1000 ≈ 6.000 Kwh / year
Another step to reduce energy consumption was the replacement of the 47,80 kW cutting
machine with a new modern model with lower kW power consumption.
This action resulted in the reduction of energy consumption by approximately 3.000 kWh per
month, or 36.000 kWh per year, beginning from April 2018 when the replacement was completed,
as is shown in the monthly energy consumption reports provided in the bills of PPC SA-Hellas (DEI).

Within this framework, the company’s next action will be to upgrade the factory’s heating
system, which currently works with a 100.000Kcal/h petroleum boiler.
Specifically, as part of the company’s action plan, all radiator knobs in the factory floor and
offices will be replaced by new ones equipped with thermostatic actuators, which would be
adjusted to the desirable temperature for each space. These devices monitor the temperature in
their area and, after the desired point has been reached, they adjust the power output of the
corresponding radiator through the heating network’s water circulation. In this way no more energy
is consumed than that which is necessary to get the temperature to a specified target level and
maintain it.
In this way, it is estimated that petroleum consumption by the heating boiler will go down by at
least 10%.
The company has also planned seminars by our security technician during the first semester of
2019, revolving around improving energy management. The goal of these seminars is for the staff
to be trained on how to use machinery and lightning in a way that would be more efficient in terms
of energy consumption.
Our target for 2019, is to further reduce energy consumption by two percentage points (2%).

Regarding waste management, as it relates to the manufacturing process, the company has
been working with the waste collection and processing firm SIMONI VERA ZEF since 01/07/2017.
As per our contract, they are responsible for the collection of the following materials:

1. Wastes from treated textile fibers
2. Paper & cardboard packaging
3. Plastic packaging

The materials are collected weekly or twice each month, as per the contract.
The person in charge of the waste management of the company is confirmed to be Mr. Stavros
Maniadis (not to be confused with the company’s CEO).
